The North Shore Connector is an extension of Pittsburgh’s existing light rail transit system beneath the Allegheny River. It connects downtown Pittsburgh to attractions and businesses on the North Shore, such as PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Rivers Casino, and the Community College of Allegheny County. Wellington’s portion of the project included 2.5 miles of direct fixation track, 5 miles of concrete plinth anchorage, tunnel ventilation fans and dampers, 2.5 miles of emergency walkways, and fire protection systems, and electrification of the tunnel.
