Our History

From our humble beginnings in 1985 to delivering projects from east to west coasts, Wellington has become an established leader in the electrical infrastructure and energy markets.

1985
1985

Wellington Power Corporation is founded by Paul and Bridget Loftus in Pittsburgh, PA. The company’s inaugural project is the rehabilitation of a manufacturing plant with a contract value of $510,000. 

1987
1987

Wellington launches its first subsidiary – Wellington Facilities Management.

1992
1992

Two major projects in Pittsburgh, PA solidify the company’s position as a premier electrical contractor – Pittsburgh International Airport and the Allegheny County Jail.

1995
1995

Continuing to strengthen cutting edge skills, the company embarks on its first fiber network – spanning a 374 acre college campus. Wellington debuts on Engineering News Record’s Top 600 Specialty Contractors list, ranked at 110.

1999
1999

Wellington performs the first of many Intelligent Transportation System projects – over 15 miles of systems on an urban interstate.

2001
2001

The nation’s only floating dam project begins at the Braddock Lock and Dam, with Wellington as the prime electrical contractor.

2004
2004

Wellington Energy secures the largest automated metering project in North America at Pacific Gas and Electric. Wellington Energy, Inc. is formed to leverage the company’s addition of an industry leading AMI management team.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge – the world’s largest lift bridge, encompassing 12 lanes of interstate highway – is completed by Wellington.

2009

Wellington Power Corporation is certified as a Women Owned Business by the Supplier Clearinghouse – California Public Utilities Commission.

2011
2011

To explore the UK and European smart meter markets, Wellington Energy UK is founded with offices and Belfast and London.

2016
2016

Headquartered offices are moved from Pittsburgh, PA to a nearly 100,000 sf facility in Warrendale, PA.

2020
2020

Wellington was the electrical contractor on the design/assist team at the Allegheny Health Network - AGH Academic Cancer Institute, which was awarded the AIA Design Pittsburgh People's Choice Award.
