Name:
Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge
Location:
Washington, DC
Facts:
The Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge is one of only a handful of drawbridges in the U.S. Interstate Highway System and carries I-95 and I-495 (Capitol Beltway) over the Potomac River. Previously, the bascule on the original span opened approximately 260 times a year and caused frequent disruptions to bridge traffic, but the new, higher span requires fewer openings. Wellington performed the electrical construction of the new bascule bridge, which included the largest inland submersible cabling installation in the United States. Other work include CCTV system, bridge/bascule luminaries, navigation lighting system, bascule bridge control system, and bridge control incident detection and roadway weather software subsystems.
