While simultaneously completing Wallens Ridge State Prison, Wellington was awarded the electrical contracts for Sussex I and II Maximum Security Prisons – two identical facilities. The prisons house 1,125 inmates and are secured by four guard towers.
Sussex I and II were set using precast concrete on both the exterior and interior walls with obvious consideration given to securing installed materials from inmate access. Wellington utilized prefabrication on these projects, with assembly of materials conducted in our Pittsburgh headquarters. Materials were then shipped to the precaster. When the precast walls reached the site, Wellington continued field work for completion.
Prefabrication work at Sussex provided the foundation for many future projects where this practice was utilized.
