UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is renowned for its specialized world-class pediatric care. Wellington’s scope encompassed the primary electrical substation, redundant and uninterruptible power systems, primary and secondary power distribution, all computer-controlled lighting, life safety (e.g., fire alarm and nurse call) systems, control applications for every operating and medical imaging area, fiber optic and data networks, and the integrated building automation system for the facility. The hospital was one of the first pediatric hospital campuses in the United States to achieve LEED status. The project received multiple awards, including “Engineering Project of the Year” by the Electric League and the building excellence award for “New Construction Over $10 Million” by the Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania.
